The week ahead: Spartans look to clinch #1 seed in conference tournament


#17 Michigan State has two Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association (CCLA) conference games remaining on their regular season schedule this week.

The Spartans (7-4, 4-0) welcome Central Michigan University (5-4, 1-3) to Ralph Young Field on Wednesday night, April 19, for Michigan State's Senior Night. Game time is 7:30 pm with senior night ceremonies at halftime honoring Spartan seniors Spencer Sims (89), Steve Tagett (44) and Stevie McKee (1). The Chippewas have won five in a row and are undefeated in the  month of April. Central Michigan picked up Easter weekend victories over Miami of Ohio and Vanderbilt.

Sunday, April 19th, Michigan State will participate in "MSU Day" at Byron Center High School Stadium near Grand Rapids Michigan. The Spartans will play Western Michigan (4-6, 1-4) at 7:00 pm as the featured event after a full day of youth and high school lacrosse.

Spartan's head coach Cam Holding and the players will conduct a youth lacrosse clinic at 12;30 pm. "The Byron Center lacrosse community has a full day of lacrosse planned including a youth clinic and then high school junior varsity and varsity games preceding our game against Western Michigan" explained Holding. Michigan State enters the final week of the 2017 regular season with the lead in the CCLA D1 conference with a 4-0 record. The CCLA Conference Tournament will be held at Chelsea (Michigan) High School Stadium April 29-30. The top four teams in the conference will battle for the conference championship and an automatic qualifying bid to the 16 team Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) national championship held in Orange California May 8-13. 

Michgian State has won the CCLA D1 conference championship five straight years (2012-2016) and has earned a trip to the MCLA national tournament for seven straight seasons (2010-2016).
